How are model cars made?
This is an original mock up before AMT even had there hands on it. This is a test assembly of the 1925 Model T Ford from the tool and die maker’s facility.
When model car injection molds are created, the makers do a run for test purposes, make corrections etc, then another run, so on. Parts that require chrome plating are left in the mold color at this point, I assume they sent them elsewhere for plating.
All of these test shots are then discarded or recycled. Here we have the 25 T Ford using the parts for its hot rod version. Other versions include 25 Ford, Roadster Pickup, 25 Tall T, 25 Tall T chopped and a 23-25 T Bucket Roadster.
Here I have it set up with the Lincoln 430 engine.
